Scots Open 2017 Home Slate with Scoreless Draw to John Carroll

WOOSTER, Ohio – A scoreless draw against John Carroll University kept The College of Wooster women's soccer team unbeaten as the Fighting Scots moved to 1-0-2 on Wednesday evening at Carl Dale Memorial Field.

Sophomore Mackenzie Goltz fires off a shot in Wooster's home opener against John Carroll University on Wednesday.

While predominantly attacking down the left flank in the first half, sophomore Krenare Rakoci led the brigade on the game as a whole with three shots, including two on frame.

The Blue Streaks (1-1-1) came inches within netting the game's opener in the 22nd minute. Sophomore Jaclyn Audino took a control touch from beyond the 18-yard-box before driving a shot towards the far post, only to be denied by the woodwork.

Twenty minutes into the second half, junior goalkeeper Maddy Ireton made a point-preserving when Audino, who found herself the open recipient of a back-post feed, hit it one-time on frame, but Ireton did well to close the space and deny the opportunity.

Less than 10 minutes later, the Scots nearly pulled ahead. Junior DevinFrisby found herself behind the defense and laid off a pass to sophomore Krissy Blanchard, whose close-range attempt went straight into the arms of John Carroll 'keeper Rhianna Guarnera.

Few threatening offensive opportunities materialized for either side in the overtime, with each squad firing one shot through 20 minutes.

Both teams totaled 14 shots on the day while Wooster led in corner kicks, 7-3. Ireton finished with five saves compared to Guarnera's eight.

Audino led the game with four shots while junior Erica White and Rakoci each tallied a team-high two shots on goal.

Up next, the Scots head to Washington, Pa. to take on Washington & Jefferson College on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 2 p.m.
