A pair of goals and a stout closing defensive effort propelled The College of Wooster women's soccer team to its second road win of the season, as the Fighting Scots took down the Presidents of Washington & Jefferson College 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Washington, Pa to remain unbeaten on the year.

First-year Miley Zunich opened the scoring in the 42nd minute for Wooster (2-0-2), converting on a close-range shot off the pass from junior Devin Frisby. The goal marked a collegiate-first for Zunich and the second assist of the season for Frisby.

After halftime, the Scots' momentum continued to roll as they doubled the advantage 15 minutes later. Again, Zunich made her mark, though it was sophomore Claire Davis who finished the opportunity. After winning the ball in Washington & Jefferson's (0-2-1) zone, Zunich provided the game-winning assist to Davis, who finished just inside the left post for her third collegiate goal.

Nearly 10 minutes later, W&J halved the deficit with an unassisted strike from Josie Madden.

From there, things appeared to be shifting the Presidents' way. However, in the 75th minute, junior goalkeeper Maddy Ireton kept the lead intact with a penalty kick save. Then, in the final 15 minutes, Ireton recorded four more saves, including one with 30 seconds remaining, as part of a career-high 11.

Of note, Ireton's start has been nothing short of incredible, as she remains top-five in the North Coast Athletic Conference in saves (17), save percentage (.850) and goals-against average (0.79). As a team, Wooster's goals-against average (0.68) stands third in the conference while the Scots are just one of three NCAC teams with a positive goal differential mark (3).

The Presidents outshot Wooster 20-12, including 12-6 in shots on goal. Davis led the team with four shots on the day, followed by two from both Zunich and junior Erica White.

Up next, the Scots return home on Tuesday, Sept. 10 to host Heidelberg University at 5 p.m.
