Ireton's Career Week Earns NCAC Player-of-the-Week Nod

Maddy Ireton

Junior goalkeeper Maddy Ireton was named the North Coast Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player-of-the-Week, per an announcement by the league office on Monday afternoon, as the Fighting Scots continued their unbeaten season with a shutout draw against John Carroll University last Wednesday, Sept. 6, before prevailing over Washington & Jefferson College, 2-1, on Saturday, Sept. 9.

Ireton, who ranks top-five in the conference in saves (17), save percentage (.850), and goals-against average (0.79), managed five saves in The College of Wooster's scoreless double overtime draw against John Carroll in the mid-week matchup, before putting up career-numbers in the week's closer at Washington & Jefferson.

Against the Presidents, the junior out of Dublin, Ohio snagged a career-best 11 saves, including a lead-preserving penalty kick save in the 75th minute, as Wooster hung on to a 2-1 victory to continue its best season start since opening 2013 with four consecutive victories. The award marks a career-first for Ireton.

Wooster continues its non-conference schedule with a home match against Heidelberg University (3-1) on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at 5 p.m.
