Three Unanswered Goals Propels Wooster to 3-1 Victory Over DePauw in NCAC Opener

WOOSTER, Ohio – Sophomore Krenare Rakoci drew the Fighting Scots level before classmate Kelsey Hall cemented the win with back-to-back goals as The College of Wooster women's soccer team opened North Coast Athletic Conference play with a 3-1 victory over DePauw University on Saturday afternoon at Carl Dale Memorial Field.

Sophomore Krenare Rakoci jumpstarts the Scots' offense with a 54th-minute equalizer.

Opening the game's scoring, however, was DePauw's (1-6-0, 0-1 NCAC) Mary Goodale as she found an open opportunity in the box off the corner.

It was the Tigers' lone opportunity of the game.

After the break, Wooster's (4-2-2, 1-0 NCAC) promising connections came to fruition at the 54-minute mark. Junior Erica White beat her defender down the left sideline before feeding a well-timed ball to Rakoci, who finished it first-time just outside the six-yard-box to equalize.

Eight minutes later, Hall netted her first collegiate goal on a back-post header off the cross from junior Devin Frisby. The assist marks Frisby's fourth of the season, which stands tied for second conference-wide.

Up 2-1, Hall closed out the game in the 70th minute after a give-and-go exchange with sophomore Krissy Blanchard culminated in an open shot from 15 yards out.

The Scots managed 14 shots on the day in addition to six corner kicks as part of an overall controlling effort on Saturday.

Saturday's win marked Wooster's third shutout of the year and first victory over DePauw since 2013.

Up next, Wooster travels to the University of Mount Union on Tuesday, Sept. 26 for a 7:30 p.m. start.
