Despite Frisby's Strike, Missed Opportunities Befell Wooster in Overtime Loss

An offensively lop-sided performance in favor of the Fighting Scots did not pan out on the final score sheet as the University of Mount Union overcame an early one-goal deficit to defeat The College of Wooster 2-1 in overtime on Tuesday night at Alliance, Ohio.

A 35-yard strike from junior Devin Frisby capped off a dominant opening effort by Wooster (4-3-2, 1-0 North Coast Athletic Conference), the ninth-ranked team in the latest United Soccer Coaches Great Lakes Regional poll.

After having controlled much of the first 25 minutes, Frisby put the Scots up 1-0 in the 29th minute with her first goal of the season.

In fact, judging by the opening 20 minutes, it appeared to be only a matter of time before Frisby got on the board in some fashion, as the junior out of Goshen, Ky. recorded three shots, including two on frame, to go along with two corner kicks taken.

Prior to that, junior Rada Zunich and sophomore Claire Davis tallied back-to-back shots on goal in the 2nd and 4th minutes before sophomore Kelsey Hall found the post with her shot in the 14th minute.

The Purple Raiders' (6-2-0) first shot came in the 31st minute before drawing level at 1-1 on their second of the game nearly 10 minutes later, as Mount's Cortni Arp finished off the assist from Nicole Lanese.

Seconds before the first-half whistle, first-year Mila Zunich found herself with a promising opportunity but placed it just over the post.

In the opening 45 minutes, Wooster outshot Mount Union 10-2.

The second half saw much of the same offensive action in favor of the Scots, with Wooster outshooting the Purple Raiders 9-3, four of which landed on goal.

The closing minutes of regulation witnessed two Wooster corners and three shots, two by Davis and one from Frisby.

In overtime, Lanese proved the difference, this time tallying the goal unassisted in the 99th minute. The game-winner marked Lanese's 11th goal of the season.

Mount Union goalkeeper Paige Freel ended with eight saves compared to one from Wooster junior Maddy Ireton.

Wooster resumes conference play on Saturday, Sept. 30 against Ohio Wesleyan University (4-2-2, 0-0-1 NCAC) at 4:30 p.m. in Delaware, Ohio.
