Wooster Shutout in Non-Conference Tilt at Case Western Reserve

Miura Wiley

The College of Wooster women's soccer team lost 1-0 at Case Western Reserve University as the Fighting Scots wrapped up non-conference play on Tuesday night at DiSanto Field in Cleveland, Ohio.

Wooster (5-4-2, 2-0-0 North Coast Athletic Conference) outshot the Spartans 12-10, including 7-5 in shots on goal, but a 4th-minute tally by Case Western's Kimberly Chen was all it took.

After a feed into the box from teammate Elle Zadina, Chen capitalized on a hint of defensive indifference from 12 yards out to bury the game-winner.

Junior goalkeeper Maddy Ireton recorded four saves on the day, while junior Devin Frisby and first-year Miura Wiley led the Scots with two shots on target each.

A quality opportunity came in the 86th minute as Wiley nearly equalized with back-to-back shots, only to be denied by Case Western 'keeper Lauren Unterborn, who finished with seven saves.

Wooster, who came in as the top-ranked NCAC team in the latest United Soccer Coaches Great Lakes Region poll at No .7, resumes league play at Wittenberg University (2-4-3, 1-1-0 NCAC) on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 1:30 p.m.
