Wiley's Cutback Finish Preserves Result as Wooster Draws Oberlin 1-1

WOOSTER, Ohio – A calm cutback finish by first-year Miura Wiley granted The College of Wooster women's soccer team a 1-0 lead in the 74th minute, only to be answered by Oberlin College's Lucy Fredell 10 minutes later as the Scots and Yeowomen drew 1-1 on Saturday afternoon at Carl Dale Memorial Field.

First-year Miura Wiley scored her second goal of the season during the Scots' 1-1 draw to Oberlin on Saturday.

Oberlin (7-2-4, 0-2-3) held a slight advantage shot-wise through the opening 45 minutes, 5-3, in what was otherwise a battle in the midfield during the first stanza.

Come the second half, Wooster upped the offensive intensity, firing eight shots total, including two on frame, with Wiley's tally marking the final shot on goal in regulation. The right-footed finish came courtesy of first-year Kelsey Stone, who pinged a well-weighted ball over the backline for a one-on-one finish. The goal marked Wiley's second of the season.

Just over 10 minutes later, Oberlin's Fredell converted on a goal-line rebound after teammate Maddi Kimball rocketed a 30-yard shot straight down off the crossbar and behind goalkeeper Maddy Ireton.

Both sides exchanged shots in the first overtime period. Come the final 10 minutes, sophomore Claire Davis fired a ball through an opening from just outside the 18-yard box before witnessing it drift just wide.

On the game, Wooster held the shot advantage 15-13 and the corner kick advantage 6-4. Davis' five shots marked a team-high and co-game-high.

Ireton finished with two saves, compared to three from Oberlin's Jordyn Morris. With the draw, Wooster snaps a three-game losing skid before embarking on a three-game, six-day stretch to conclude the regular season. Through five league games, Wooster stands in third place with seven points.

Up next, Wooster travels to Hiram College (3-8-1, 1-2 NCAC) on Wednesday, Oct. 18, for a 7:30 p.m. match.
