The College of Wooster got its 2013-14 season started over the weekend at the Oberlin College Invitational, and although it was not a team-scored event, the Fighting Scots got a chance to see where they stack up against 10 other teams in the region, and the results were quite promising.

Overall, the Scots won nine matches, all in singles competition, and the most impressive part was that seven different players notched a victory.

Rachel Appleton and Kimberly Carter led the way with two rather dominant wins apiece. Appleton took a 6-1, 6-0 decision against her opponent from Malone University, and a 6-2, 6-1 win over Baldwin Wallace University. Carter picked up her victories against Otterbein University (6-2, 6-0) and North Coast Athletic Conference foe Allegheny College (6-3, 6-2).

Newcomer Rachel Mole had one of the longest matches of the weekend against a player from Denison University, but after coming up short in the first set, she outlasted her for a 5-7, 7-5, 11-9 marathon triumph.

Others getting into the win column for Wooster were Catherine Boyles, Elizabeth Brewington, Rose Chiumento, and Paula Trautvetter.

The Scots went 0-4 in doubles action, but that wasn't entirely surprising, as three of the four pairings had never teamed together before. One result included No. 1 singles player Catherine Christian teaming with Mole in an 8-5 setback.

On Wednesday, the Scots will host their home opener against Malone University at 4:30 p.m.
