Scot Duo Combines for Three Wins at ITA Regionals

For the first time in several years, The College of Wooster women's tennis team sent some representatives to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association NCAA Div. III Central Region Championships, and the young duo of Rachel Mole and Catherine Christian faired quite well at the event, hosted by DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind.

Mole won a pair of decisive singles matches before running into the tournament's No. 1 seed. The Wooster first-year swept away her opponent from Lake Forest College in the first round by a 6-2, 6-1 count, then routed a foe from North Central (Ill.) College 6-0, 6-1 in the second. During the Round of 32, Mole faced off against junior Megan Tang of the University of Chicago and the top seed prevailed 6-1, 6-0 on her way to Monday's championship match.

Christian, a sophomore, lost a couple of close singles matches, but joined forces with Mole to win a first-round doubles match, 8-6, versus a pairing from Trine University. They dropped an 8-3 decision in the Round of 32.

The Scots will return to their traditional dual-match schedule on Wednesday, hosting the University of Mount Union at 4 p.m.
