The College of Wooster women's tennis team started strong on its spring break trip, with dominant 7-0 and 8-1 victories, but then the Fighting Scots lost two matches and had a fifth match canceled due to rain, giving them an even 2-2 record during their time in Hilton Head, S.C.

The Scots (3-5) were impressive in their initial action at Hilton Head, beginning with a 7-0 win against NCAA Div. II school Fairmont State University. Highlights came at No. 5 singles, where Paula Trautvetter swept her opponent 6-0, 6-0, and at No. 2 doubles, where partners Catherine Boyles and Rose Chiumento rolled to an 8-0 triumph.

Wooster went right back to work in its next match, an 8-1 victory over Catholic University of America, which saw Rachel Molé and Catherine Christian notch decisive wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, just like they did against Fairmont State.

Wooster also came out on top in some close battles with Catholic, like a 6-3, 4-6, 10-3 win at No. 5 singles (Boyles), as well as at No. 3 doubles, where Kimberly Carter and Laura Kummer prevailed in a tiebreaker 9-8 (7-3).

Kummer stood out for the Scots in their next two matches, as she recorded the team's lone victories in singles competition against both Lake Forest College and University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, with both wins coming at the No. 6 spot in the lineup.

Molé and Christian were key contributors during the trip with a 3-1 record at No. 1 doubles and four singles wins between them. Mole' was named North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week for her efforts in Hilton Head.

The Scots will return from their trip to start a three-match homestand, beginning with Walsh University next Wednesday (March 26) at 4:30 p.m.
