Not only did The College of Wooster women's tennis team score a point off of Allegheny College for the first time since the 2011 season, but it nearly pulled off the win as the Fighting Scots continued to show significant improvement, despite a 6-3 loss to their North Coast Athletic Conference East Division foe Saturday in Meadville, Pa.

Wooster (5-10, 0-2 NCAC) took the early lead, winning two of the three doubles matches, including at the top of the lineup with Rachel Molé and Catherine Christian doubling up their opponents, 8-4. Kimberly Carter and Laura Kummer came out of the No. 3 position with a hard-fought 8-6 triumph to give the Scots a 2-1 edge going into singles.

Molé earned a pair of 6-3 sets, sandwiched around a 6-4 setback, in winning a three-setter at No. 1 singles, marking the first-year standout's fifth victory of the season atop the lineup.

Allegheny (10-6, 1-1 NCAC East) managed to sweep the remainder of the singles matches, despite several strong efforts from Wooster. Christian nearly took the first set of a loss at No. 2 and Catherine Boyles fell by an identical 6-4, 6-2 score at No. 6, while Kummer almost stretched her match at No. 5 (6-3, 7-5) into a third set.

The Scots continue divisional play at regionally-ranked Kenyon College (7-8, 1-0 NCAC East) on Wednesday afternoon.
