Playing a regionally-ranked opponent for the fourth time in five matches, The College of Wooster women's tennis team scored a point for the second time during this challenging stretch while continuing to gain valuable experience in an 8-1 loss to North Coast Athletic Conference East Division foe Kenyon College on Wednesday at Wooster's D.J. Hard Memorial Courts.

Wooster (5-11, 0-3 NCAC East) nearly pulled off an impressive win at No. 1 doubles, as first-year Rachel Molé and sophomore Catherine Christian pushed their opponents to the limit, however, Kenyon (8-8, 2-0 NCAC East), ranked No. 12 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region, saw its top team eventually prevail 8-6.

Several singles matches were close, too, with the Scots' win coming from Laura Kummer at No. 4, where she earned a hard-fought 6-2, 5-7, 10-3 decision. Another three-setter went the visitors way, despite a very strong effort from Rose Chiumento, who won the first set and nearly the second before succumbing 4-6, 7-5, 10-1 while playing No. 2, one spot higher than normal in the lineup.

Also notable, Molé won six games off of the No. 16 ranked singles player in the region via a 6-3, 6-3 score line at the top of the lineup.

Wooster will be right back in action Thursday at rival Wittenberg University (6-8).
