The College of Wooster took it to Wittenberg University on Thursday afternoon, as the Fighting Scots nearly swept the Tigers across the board in a convincing 7-2 victory at Springfield, Ohio.

Rachel Molé and Catherine Christian got doubles action started with an 8-3 triumph at the No. 1 spot, which was their ninth win in 14 matches together this season, while Rose Chiumento and Catherine Boyles were also winners, 8-5, at the second-spot.

Teammates Laura Kummer and Kimberly Carter almost put Wooster (6-11) ahead 3-0 heading into singles, but were edged out 8-6 in a match at No. 3 doubles that could have went either way.

Then in individual competition, Molé improved to 5-8 on the season at the top spot in the lineup, which includes matches against opponents from four regionally-ranked programs, as she won 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7).

The wins kept rolling in, as Christian won decisively at No. 2 by a 6-3, 6-0 count and Chiumento battled through an early tiebreaker set to cruise to a 7-6 (7-2), 6-0 victory at No. 3.

Also adding tallies to the win column were No. 5 Kummer (6-1, 6-1), as she improved to an impressive 5-1 at her signature spot in the lineup, while No. 6 Boyles ran away with a 6-1, 6-3 decision. Carter was right there with her opponent at No. 4, as she won the opening set, but eventually went down in a tiebreaker 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-5).

The Scots will wrap up their regular season when they host Baldwin Wallace University (7-12) on Monday at the DJ Hard Memorial Courts.
