The College of Wooster women's tennis team split its singles matches against Otterbein University, the reigning Ohio Athletic Conference champions, but a series of closely-contested doubles matches went against the Fighting Scots, resulting in a 6-3 setback inside the Scot Center on Tuesday.

The Scots (1-2) lost to the Cardinals (3-1) by an 8-1 count last season, so this represented a solid improvement, but it could have potentially been a victory, had some tight doubles competition gone Wooster's way.

Rachel Molé and Catherine Christian came up just two games short at No. 1 doubles (8-6), while No. 2's Catherine Boyles and Morgan Wagers and No. 3's Elizabeth Brewington and Rose Chiumento were each edged out by identical 8-5 decisions.

Wooster posted strong results in singles action, as it won three matches and had two others end in narrow defeat. The most dominant effort came from Christian, who was nearly perfect in a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at the second spot in the lineup.

Also coming out on top, albeit in lengthier battles, were No. 4 Wagers with a 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (12-10) victory, and Brewington, who tallied a 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) win at the sixth spot.

Next up, the Scots will play John Carroll University (3-0) on Friday at the Paramount Tennis Club in Medina, Ohio. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m.
