The College of Wooster continued its late season push, as it won its third match in its last five, this time against NAIA program Taylor (Ind.) University by a 7-2 count on Saturday afternoon at the D.J. Hard Memorial Tennis Courts.
The match-up was more competitive than the score indicates, as five of the six singles matches either went to three sets or needed a tiebreaker to decide an earlier set, but each time the Fighting Scots (5-11) prevailed.
The most highly-contested battle might have come at No. 2 singles, where Rachel Molé triumphed 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Rose Chiumento also won a tough one at No. 4 singles, as she dropped the opening set (4-6), but closed out the match 6-3, 6-2. Also needing three sets to claim victory was Elizabeth Brewington, who used a dominant third set to notch a 6-2, 6-7 (7-2), 6-1 win.
Morgan Wagers and Bonnie Salmeron also won their singles matches at the third- and fifth-spots, respectively.
Earlier in doubles, Catherine Christian and Molé won for the 10th time this season at the top spot in the lineup, 8-5, while the relatively new pairing of Melanie Chin and Brewington cruised 8-1 over their opponent at three doubles.
Wooster will get back to North Coast Athletic Conference East Division action on Wednesday when they visit Kenyon College (7-7, 0-0 NCAC East) at 4:30 p.m.
