The College of Wooster women's tennis team took a point from perennial power Kenyon College for the second consecutive season, but the host Ladies, ranked No. 12 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association NCAA Div. III Central Region poll, ultimately prevailed 8-1 Wednesday in a North Coast Athletic Conference East Division match that was closer than the final score indicates.

Wooster (5-12, 0-2 NCAC East) was very competitive at all three doubles positions, however, Kenyon (8-8, 1-1 NCAC East) emerged with a 3-0 start. Catherine Christian and Rachel Molé pushed their opponents at No. 1 doubles to an 8-6 decision, while the teams of Morgan Wagers-Melanie Chin and Rose Chiumento-Elizabeth Brewington won four and five games at No. 2 (8-4) and No. 3 (8-5), respectively.

The highlight of the day for the Fighting Scots came at second singles, where Molé battled her way to a closely-contested victory, 7-6 (7-3), 3-6, 11-9. Also playing well in singles were Chiumento, who pushed her foe in each set at No. 3 (6-4, 6-3), and Brewington, who nearly won the first set at No. 6 (7-5, 6-0).

Wooster will close out its NCAC divisional schedule on Friday when it welcomes Allegheny College (11-4, 1-0 NCAC East) to D.J. Hard Memorial Courts for a 4 p.m. match.
