Wooster's Melanie Chin returns a volley during doubles play in today's match against Allegheny. |
In the last home match of her career, College of Wooster senior Melanie Chin went out a high note with a gutsy victory, but the Fighting Scots weren't able to take any other points off Allegheny College, ultimately falling by an 8-1 count on Friday afternoon in North Coast Athletic Conference divisional play at the D.J. Hard Memorial Courts.
Chin, the Scots' lone senior, was involved in a lengthy match at No. 6 singles, which she won in a third-set super tiebreaker 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (12-10). It marked the 33rd win of her career, with 17 coming in singles and another 16 in doubles action.
Rose Chiumento also pushed her Allegheny (12-4, 2-0 NCAC East) foe to a third-set super tiebreaker at the third-spot in the order, but she came up just short of triumph, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6).
Both No. 1 Catherine Christian and No. 2 Rachel Molé were highly-competitive in the second sets of their matches, but it wasn't enough to get in the column, as they were edged out 6-0, 6-4 and 6-1, 7-5, respectively.
The Christian/Mole duo was also impressive in a narrow 9-8 (7-4) defeat at No. 1 doubles.
Wooster (5-13, 0-3 NCAC East) wraps up its regular season slate with a visit to Baldwin Wallace University (5-14) on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
