Scots Open Spring Slate with 9-0 Blanking of 'Berg

Bonnie Salmeron

The College of Wooster women's tennis team had a strong spring debut, as it swept Heidelberg University 9-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Lakewood Racquet Club in Lexington, Ohio.

The Fighting Scots (1-1) had a full complement of players, welcoming back Elizabeth Brewington and Rachel Molé after both missed the fall season due to studying abroad.

Wooster picked up two quick points at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles, as first at No. 3, Bonnie Salmeron and Katie Kuzmishin picked up an 8-1 win. Molé and Catherine Christian picked up an 8-3 win over Heidelberg's No. 1 pairing moments later. Brewington and Morgan Wagers capped the doubles sweep by an 8-1 count.

In singles play, Christian, Molé (match clincher), Salmeron, and Wagers each dropped three or fewer games en route to straight-set wins. Brewington (6-3, 6-1) and Kuzmishin (6-4, 6-1) rounded out the sweep.

Wooster travels to DePauw University (0-0) on Saturday, where it will play Centre College (2-0) and the host Tigers.
