Scots' Sophomores Impress in Singles in Midweek Setback to Otterbein

Sophomore Morgan Wagers had an impressive straight-set win at No. 2 singles.

Two thrilling singles wins by The College of Wooster women's tennis team highlighted its match with regional foe Otterbein University, but the Cardinals would win the match by a 6-3 count on Wednesday at the Scot Center in Wooster, Ohio.

Sophomore Morgan Wagers strung together an impressive straight-set 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles, her first win in the second flight, having spent the majority of her career thus far playing in either the third or fourth position in dual matches.

Classmate Bonnie Salmeron rebounded quickly from dropping a second-set tiebreaker to win her match in the No. 4 position. Salmeron won her opening set 6-2 before dropping a 6-7 (0-7) frame in the second set. The sophomore secured the win with a 6-4 showing in the third set.

Earlier in the match senior Catherine Christian and junior Rachel Molé - the winningest doubles tandem in program history for years complete individual match results are available - picked up their 27th win as partners with an 8-3 win at the No. 1 flight.

The Fighting Scots (1-4) nearly picked up another win over the Cardinals (3-1) at No. 3 doubles, but Salmeron and Katie Kuzmishin came up just short in a highly-competitive 8-6 match.

Next, Wooster takes on regionally-ranked John Carroll University (2-0) in a 6 p.m. match on Friday at the Paramount Tennis Club in Medina, Ohio.
