A Thursday sweep highlighted the first half of The College of Wooster women's tennis team's spring trip, with the Fighting Scots topping Macalester College by a 5-4 count, and then pushing past Goucher College 8-1 on St. Patrick's Day at Orlando. Wooster also dropped a 7-2 decision to Calvin College on Wednesday in its first southern match.

Thursday's opener came right down to the wire with Morgan Wagers and Anne Sophie Haanen clinching the Macalester (3-5) match with an 8-6 thriller at No. 2 doubles. Moments earlier the Scots' (3-6) top doubles' flight of Rachel Molé and Elizabeth Brewington evened the team score at four with their 8-4 win.

Wooster really rallied late in singles play, which opened the match, as all three of the Scots' wins came via the third set tiebreaker.

First, Katie Kuzmishin rallied from a set down to win at the fourth flight 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7). Next, Molé followed suit after dropping her first set 4-6 to win the next two 6-3, 1-0 (10-7). Finally, Haanen bounced back from falling in her second set 0-6 to win the third frame 1-0 (10-8). Haanen opened her singles' match with a highly competitive 7-6 (7-5) win.

The momentum from the day's first matched carried over to the afternoon tilt, with the Scots' jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead over Goucher (3-4).

Kuzmishin and Aditi Sringeri headlined the doubles' play out of the No. 3 position by not dropping a game during their 8-0 win. The pairing was quickly backed up by Wagers and Haanen, who won the second flight 8-4; and Molé and Brewington, who capped the doubles sweep by an 8-3 count at the top flight.

Wooster's charge carried over to singles play as three Scots dropped four or fewer games in their respective matches.

Brewington turned in a stellar all-around performance with her 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 4 singles, while Sringeri (6-2, 6-2) followed suit with the match-clincher out of the No. 6 position. Molé only dropped two games during a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at the top flight.

Wagers (6-4, 6-3) and Kuzmishin (6-2, 6-3) rounded out the team scoring for Wooster.

Against Calvin (6-2), Wooster had wins from Molé (6-2, 6-4) at No. 1 singles and Kuzmishin and Sringeri (8-3) at No. 3 doubles.

Wooster has three matches remaining in the Sunshine State before returning north, beginning with an 8 a.m. tilt against Hamline College (3-5) on Saturday.
