Wagers' Stellar Play Highlights Second Half of Spring Trip for Scots

Morgan Wagers

The College of Wooster women's tennis team concluded its spring trip with three more matches, including one on Wednesday against regionally-ranked Luther College, but ultimately, the matches swung the other way, as the Fighting Scots dropped all three contests at Orlando, Fla.

Morgan Wagers led the way for Wooster, and turned in a stellar trip overall, capped by a four-match singles' win streak dating back to last week. She really stepped up with a strong 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) win at the No. 1 flight against Luther, in what was the Scots' lone point during the 8-1 match.

On Saturday, Wagers was a part of two of Wooster's three points in a 6-3 loss to Hamline University to start the second half of the trip. First, the sophomore only dropped three games during a 6-3, 6-0 win at the second flight. Then in doubles play, she teamed with Katie Kuzmishin for a convincing 8-2 win at the No. 2 position.

On Sunday, Wagers followed with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 win at No. 2 singles over The College of Saint Scholastica. In doubles' play, Wagers and Kuzmishin were right there win the Saints, but ultimately dropped an 8-4 match.

Wooster fell to St. Scholastica 7-2.

Wooster also had strong contributions at the top of its singles' lineup from Rachel Molé.

Molé, the North Coast Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player-of-the-Week finished the spring trip with an unblemished 5-0 singles' record. The junior recorded a 7-5, 6-4 win over Hamline on Saturday, and followed with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 win over St. Scholastica on Sunday.

Other notable performances this week were turned in by Elizabeth Brewington, who won four games in both sets of her singles' match against Hamline, prior to winning five games in her singles' match against Luther; and by Aditi Sringeri, who won six games in the first set of her singles' match against St. Scholastica, before falling 7-3 in the first-set tiebreaker.

Wooster resumes the northern portion of its schedule with a 4:30 p.m. match at No. 23 Denison University (4-5) next week Wednesday.
