Wooster Falls to Ohio Wesleyan, as Scots Honor Lone Senior During Final "Home" Match

 Bonnie Salmeron

On Friday, The College of Wooster women's tennis team celebrated "Senior Day," but Ohio Wesleyan University came away with a 9-0 win, in a contest that was shifted to Oberlin, Ohio due to a mid-afternoon rain shower in Wooster.

Wooster (3-17) had a strong showing from Bonnie Salmeron out of the fifth singles flight. Salmeron, playing for the first time after missing nearly two months due to injury, won her opening set 6-4, and was right there, but the back-and-forth match ultimately went the other way with Ohio Wesleyan's (7-5) Kimberly Baione taking the next second set 6-4 and the super tiebreaker 10-6.

The Scots were in the mix in two of the three doubles matches, with Rachel Molé and Morgan Wagers winning four games at No. 1, while Dora Mase and newcomer Carolina Luchini did likewise out of the third flight.

At the match, Wooster honored its senior Catherine Christian. Christian, who has been injured for most of the spring, has turned in one of the top careers in program history, ranking sixth in career doubles wins with 37 for years win-loss records are available. The 2013 North Coast Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year earned a pair of all-conference certificates during her career, to go along with 29 singles wins.

Next, Wooster turns its focus to the NCAC Tournament, which will be contested from April 29 – May 1 at Granville, Ohio.
