The College of Wooster women's tennis team ended its 2016 campaign on a positive note with a 5-1 win over archrival Wittenberg University in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament seventh-place match on Saturday evening at Gambier, Ohio.

Wooster (4-18) avenged its 5-4 heartbreaking setback in the regular season to Wittenberg (5-17) with a quick close in singles play.

After Christian won her point, Elizabeth Brewington picked up a 6-4, 6-1 victory out of the fourth position. Then, Morgan Wagers clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph at No. 2.

Earlier in the Saturday match, Anne Sophie Haanen and Dora Mase put the Fighting Scots on the board with an 8-5 win at No. 3, and were later backed up by the top flight of Rachel Molé and Wagers as they really ramped up the intensity in the tiebreaker for a hard-fought 9-8 (7-1) victory.

On Friday, Wooster opened play with a 5-0 loss to No. 22nd ranked and top-seeded Denison University in the quarterfinal round.

Notable, Molé and Wagers put forth a valiant effort in doubles, winning two games off of the region's second-ranked doubles tandem before succumbing 8-2.

Wooster, which played eight matches against opponents that were ranked at the regional level this year, dealt with a wide variety of injuries, which kept numerous key contributors sidelined for extended periods of time.
