The College of Wooster women's tennis team kick-started its fall slate at the non-scoring Oberlin College Invitational over the weekend. Wooster turned in a strong showing during Saturday's doubles rounds, which saw the Fighting Scots string together a 6-4 record. On Sunday, Wooster went 8-12 in singles play.
Two of Wooster's doubles tandems went unbeaten on Saturday.
Senior Elizabeth Brewington and freshman Ellie Rivera teamed up to cruise past an Ohio Northern University team 8-1, before pushing past a Baldwin Wallace tandem 8-5.
Sophomore Veronica Clark and freshman Joy Li also won their second match of the day by an 8-5 count over a Baldwin Wallace team. They surrendered one point fewer during an 8-4 win over Allegheny College in their first match on Saturday.
Brewington, Clark, and Li carried over their doubles success from Saturday into singles play on Sunday and went a combined 6-0 to lead the Scots.
Brewington opened with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) win in her first singles match, and then won an 8-3 pro-set match in the final round.
Clark topped a John Carroll University competitor 6-0, 7-6 (7-4) and followed that with a 6-0, 6-0 win over a Case Western Reserve University student-athlete.
Li also topped a Blue Streak competitor in her first singles match 6-4, 3-6, 10-4, and then cruised past Div. II Slippery Rock University's Kylie Woodman 6-1, 6-3 in her final match of the weekend.
Wooster hosts its first dual match of the season against Div. II Notre Dame College on Sunday, Sept. 25.
