WOOSTER, Ohio – Coming off a strong showing at the non-scoring Oberlin College Invitational earlier in the month, The College of Wooster women's tennis team opened the 2016-17 season with a 6-3 win over Notre Dame College at the D.J. Hard Memorial Courts on Sunday afternoon.

In the Fighting Scots' (1-0) first dual match of the season, Wooster tallied two doubles wins and four in singles play to cruise by the Falcons (0-1).

At No. 2 doubles, junior Morgan Wagers and senior Rachel Molé took down the Falcons' Camryn Kidd and Maria Cevallos, 8-1, while junior Bonnie Salmeron and first-year Shannon Sertz came away with a convincing 8-0 win.

Sophomore Veronica Clark paired with first-year Joy Li at No. 1 doubles, as the duo battled before falling 8-4.

With a 2-1 lead heading into singles play, the Scots continued their strong start.

Molé won 6-0, 6-0 at the third spot, as Salmeron was the next to finish with a straight-set win, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 6.

Brewington clinched the match for Wooster at the fifth spot with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Taylor Buck.

Wagers rolled 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4, while Li fell 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2.

In the only three-setter of the match, Clark went the distance with Zaishliuk at No. 1 before falling 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) in the third set super-tiebreaker.

Excluding No. 1 and No. 2 singles, the Scots only dropped seven games as a team in singles play.

The Scots return to action on Friday, Sept. 30, as they get set for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Regional Tournament at Kalamazoo, Mich. to close out the short fall season.
