Scots Travel for Weekend Doubleheader at Nationally-Ranked DePauw

The College of Wooster women's tennis team traveled to Greencaslte, Ind. for a Saturday doubleheader against Centre College and host team, No. 25 DePauw University, as the Fighting Scots dropped both decisions against squads with regionally- and nationally-ranked competition.

In Wooster's 7-2 loss to regionally-ranked Centre (2-2), the Scots wrapped up doubles play down 2-1, with the doubles pair of first-year Shannon Sertz and junior Bonnie Salmeron defeating Centre's Mary Chapin Snow and Kenny Snow, 8-2, at the No. 3 spot.

In singles, Sertz took on Mary Chapin Snow at No. 6, topping the senior 6-0, 6-4 to round out Wooster's scoring on the match. Going the distance in the fifth slot was senior Elizabeth Brewington, who battled in the match's lone three-setter after splitting the first two sets, 6-4, 4-6, before falling in the third set super-tiebreaker, 5-10.

At No. 1, senior Rachel Molé lost to regionally-ranked Neha Rao, 6-2, 6-0.

Commencing with singles play against 25th-ranked DePauw (3-2), Molé (1-6, 0-6) and first-year Joy Li (1-6, 4-6) fell in straights to DePauw's Maddie Lee and Gretchen Wilder, the 17th- and 20th-ranked singles players in the ITA Central Region.

Junior Morgan Wagers (0-6, 2-6) lost at No. 3, as did Salmeron (0-6, 0-6), Sertz (1-6, 3-6), and Brewington (0-6, 1-6) at the fourth through sixth positions, respectively.

In a competitive doubles slate, the Scots' duo of Molé and Wagers battled at the top spot, falling 6-8 to Lee and Wilder. At No. 2, Brewington and Li took on the 22nd-ranked doubles team in the nation in Meredith Bred and Alyssa Senevirante, as the Wooster pair dropped the decision, 4-8. At No. 3, Salmeron and Serte lost 4-8.

Up next, the Scots travel to Baldwin Wallace University (1-2) on Wednesday, March. 1 for a 4:30 p.m. match.
