Wooster Opens NCAC East Play at Nationally-Ranked Oberlin

The College of Wooster women's tennis team opened North Coast Athletic Conference East Division play with a 9-0 loss to 37th-ranked Oberlin College on Friday evening at Heisman Field House in Oberlin, Ohio.

At No. 1 doubles, senior Rachel Molé and junior Morgan Wagers fell 3-8 to Oberlin's Sarah Huges and Emma Brezel, the fourth-ranked pair in the Intercollege Tennis Association's Central Region. First-year Joy Li and senior Elizabeth Brewington's seven-match win streak came to an end with a 1-8 loss at No. 2 doubles, while at No. 3, senior Dora Mase and first-year Shannon Sertz lost 0-8.

In singles, Li battled Brezel at the top spot, with the first-year dropping the opening set by a break, 4-6, before losing the second, 1-6. At No. 2, Molé battled back from a set down with a 6-4 second-set win, but dropped the third set tiebreaker, 8-10, as part of the only match to go three sets.

At No. 3, Wagers went down 0-6, 1-6 to Oberlin's (10-10, 1-0 NCAC East) Lena Rich while Sertz (1-6, 1-6) and Brewington (0-6, 0-6) lost at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Playing at No. 6 singles during the doubles action was first-year Mali Zemedkun, who fell 2-6, 1-6 to Oberlin's Rainie Heck.

Wooster (6-6, 0-1 NCAC East) continues divisional play at No. 32 Kenyon College on Wednesday, April 12 at 4:30 p.m.
