Molé Inches Up the Record Books as Scots Cap Undefeated Weekend with Sweep over Heidelberg

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's tennis team went 2-0 over the weekend and concluded its regular season with a 9-0 sweep over regional foe Heidelberg University on Sunday afternoon at D.J. Hard Tennis Courts.

With the victory, the Fighting Scots (8-8, 0-3 North Coast Athletic Conference East) finished with a .500 record or better for the first time in the regular season since 2003-04.

Senior Dora Mase (pictured) and first-year partner Shannon Sertz won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.

Confident doubles play led Wooster all weekend, and that momentum did not seize on Sunday as the Scots allowed a combined three games in doubles action.

Senior Rachel Molé and junior Morgan Wagers won 8-1 at No. 1 doubles while first-year Joy Li and senior Elizabeth Brewington won 8-2 in the No. 2 spot. First to come off the court, however, were first-year Shannon Sertz and senior Dora Mase, who did not allow a game, winning 8-0 at No. 3.

With the victory at No. 1, Molé moved into a tie for first-place all-time in program history in career wins at No. 1 doubles with 36, drawing level with 1989 alumna Jennifer Lister.

In singles, each match went down in straight sets, with the bottom three flights allowing a combined three games total.

Winning at the top spot was Li (6-1, 6-2), followed by Molé (6-0, 6-2) and Wagers (6-3, 6-2) at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.

Sertz blanked Heidelberg's (3-9) Gabi Osterman 6-0, 6-0, while Brewington won 6-1, 6-1, followed by first-year Mali Zemedkun's straight-set 6-1, 6-0 victory at the sixth position.

With two singles wins on the weekend, Molé moved into a tie for eighth-place all-time in program history in career singles wins with 39. In addition, the standout senior moved into sole possession of fourth-place all-time in career combined wins with 84, and stands two victories back of third-place honors.

Up next, the Scots roll into NCAC Conference Tournament play, which begins Friday, April 28.
