Scots Drop First Match of the Season by 5-4 Count to Otterbein

LEXINGTON, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's tennis team fell to 2-1 on the season after a 5-4 loss to Otterbein University on Friday evening at Lakewood Racquet Club in Lexington, Ohio.

After an 8-0 loss at No. 3 doubles, senior Morgan Wagers and sophomore Joy Li took down Otterbein's Sydney Bergman and Makayla Sutter 8-3 at No. 1 to bring the match level. Sophomore Shannon Sertz and first-year Laura Haley concluded doubles play with an 8-4 loss at the No. 2 spot.

In singles, each side took three matches. Li won at No. 1, 6-1, 6-1, before Haley fell 7-5, 6-0, at the No. 5 position. Otterbein's Megan Stuteville brought the Cardinals ahead 4-1 with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6 before Wager's 6-4, 6-4 loss at No. 4 clinched the match for Otterbein.

Sertz and first-year Sarah Duran pulled out three-set victories, with Sertz winning 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 at No. 3 before Duran closed the match with a 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-1 win at No. 2.

Up next, Wooster hosts Mount Union on Monday, Feb. 26 at Aspen Racquet Club in Wooster, Ohio.
