Scots Improve to 5-1 with Saturday Sweep Over Calvin and Marietta

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's tennis team improved to 5-1 on the season with a 2-0 Saturday that included wins over Calvin College and Marietta College at Aspen Racquet Club in Wooster, Ohio.

As part of a 5-4 victory over Calvin (3-2), the Fighting Scots took two of three in doubles play, as the No. 1 duo of sophomore Joy Li and Morgan Wagers lost their first dual match of the season, 8-5. Victorious at No. 2 were sophomore Shannon Sertz and first-year Laura Haley (8-2), while first-year Sarah Duran and sophomore Mali Zemedkun won 8-6 at No. 3 in their first match together.

In singles, Haley clinched the win at No. 5 with Wooster leading 5-2. The first-year won a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 match after respective victories from Sertz (6-3, 6-0) and Li, as the latter of whom grounded out a third-set super tiebreaker to win, 7-6 (2), 0-6, 1-0 (8).

The Scots swept Marietta, 9-0, in the nightcap. Li moved to 6-0 on the year in No. 1 singles dual match play while Sertz improved to 5-1 at No. 3 singles. Zemedkun started off singles action with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 before Li clinched the team victory with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

Up next, Wooster kicks off their Spring Break schedule against Concordia University (Wis.) on March 13 at Hilton Head Island, S.C.
