The College of Wooster women's tennis team, which checked in at No. 20 in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region Rankings, was unable to sustain the momentum, as the Fighting Scots fell to fellow regionally-ranked DePauw University 6-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2018 North Coast Athletic Conference Championships on Friday at Wynne Tennis Center in Indianapolis, Ind.

DePauw (8-12) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles. Sophomore Joy Li and senior Morgan Wagers fell 8-2 at No. 1, as did sophomore Shannon Sertz and first-year Laura Haley in the second flight.

DePauw's Alyssa Seneviratne and Colleen Morris captured the win at the third flight.

In singles play, first-year Sarah Duran and Haley both won two games off their respective opponents in the second set, but were unable to push forward any further during 6-1, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-2 matches. The third singles match went down as a final in the scorebook, and was the clinching match. DePauw's Merredith Breda won 6-1, 6-1 over Sertz.

Li, who made her debut in the regional singles rankings at No. 24, was up 6-0, 3-1 on Colleen Morris when the match ended.

Further down the lineup, sophomore Mali Zmedkun held a 4-2 lead in the second set over Grace Haigh after Haigh took the first set 6-1.

Despite the outcome of Friday's match, its still been a historic season for the Scots, and Wooster (15-4) will have one more chance to tie the single-season program record for wins, currently held by the 1997 team (16-6). Ohio Wesleyan University (10-6) stands in Wooster's way, and the two squads will square off in the fifth-place match at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
