The College of Wooster women's tennis team opened its 2024 season hosting Hope College at Aspen Racquet Club, taking a 9-0 defeat.
It was a tough opening match for the Scots, but they did have a pair in Janaki Jagannathan and Abby Williams play in third set super tiebreakers.
Both won their respective second sets as the junior Jagannathan took a 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (3) loss at the No. 2 flight, while Williams fell 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (5) at the No. 3 spot.
Senior Otilia Oita took a hard, fought loss in the No. 1 flight, 7-5, 6-4.
Classmate Abby Aitken and first-year Lauren Richmond each took 6-0, 6-2 losses in the No. 4 and No. 5 flights, respectively. Sophomore Margaret Steward fell 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 6 flight.
In doubles play, the No. 2 team of Aitken and Richmond as well as the No. 3 team of Williams of Steward each fell 8-2. Oita and Jagannathan lost 8-1 in the No. 1 flight.
Wooster will return to play at Aspen on Feb. 2 when they host John Carroll University.
