Women on Wrong End of Tight Doubles Matches

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The College of Wooster women's tennis team capped off its weekend on the road with a 6-3 loss to Kalamazoo College on Saturday.

Wooster got off to a difficult start where they were two close matches away from being up 2-1. Instead, they found themselves down 3-0 early.

The No. 1 doubles team of Otilia Oita and Janaki Jagannathan and the No. 2 doubles team of Abby Aitken and Lauren Richmond each suffered 8-7 defeats with losses in the tiebreaker. The No. 1 team lost 7-1 in the tiebreaker, while Aitken and Richmond fell 7-5 in its tiebreaker.

In the No. 3 flight, Abby Williams and Margaret Steward lost 8-4.

Needing to make up ground in singles play, the Scots took two of the first three flights. Jagannathan won 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot, while Williams took a 6-1, 6-2 win in the No. 3 flight.

In the No. 1 flight, Oita fell 6-3, 6-4 to Kalamazoo's (1-0) Juliana Pullen.

The Scots could only muster one win through the rest of the flights, highlighted by Richmond's 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (7) win in the No. 5 flight.

Aitken lost a close first set in a 7-5, 6-3 loss in the No. 4 flight. Steward then took a 6-0, 6-1 loss in the No. 6 flight.

Next, Wooster (1-3) will host Carnegie Mellon University and Otterbein University Feb. 18 at Aspen Racquet Club.
