The College of Wooster women's tennis team opened North Coast Athletic Conference play on the first day of March, falling to 20th-ranked Denison University 9-0.
Wooster had a pair of set wins in singles play thanks to Otilia Oita and Abby Williams. However, each player would lose their match in the super-tiebreaker third set.
For Oita in the No. 1 flight, she went the distance with Dasha Chistyakova after forcing the third set with a 6-2 second set win. However, Oita would lose a marathon of third set and the match, 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10).
For Williams in the No. 3 flight, she got off to a solid start but could not pull it together for the win. She ultimately fell 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (2).
Elsewhere, Janaki Jagannathan fell 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 flight, while Abby Aitken fell 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 4 flight.
Margaret Steward also took a loss but in the No. 5 flight, 6-0, 6-1.
Wooster could not field the No. 6 flight after retiring the No. 3 doubles flight. Oita and Jagannathan teamed for an 8-2 loss in the No. 1 flight, and Aitken and Williams fell 8-3 in the No. 2 flight.
After playing all ranked opponents in their first four games, Denison (1-4, 1-0 NCAC) picked up its first win of the season.
The Scots (1-6, 0-1 NCAC) will now focus on their four-match trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. They open play March 11 against Shenandoah University.
