Oita Scores 60th Career Win at DePauw

Otilia Oita, Wooster Tennis GREENCASTLE, Indiana – The College of Wooster women's tennis team lost a 6-3 decision at DePauw University on Sunday in North Coast Athletic Conference play.

The Fighting Scots won the top three singles matches, including at No. 1 where senior Otilia Oita rallied back for a 1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (6) victory to notch the 60th win between singles and doubles over her career.

At No. 2, junior Janaki Jagannathan recorded a 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 (7) win. That victory moves her into a tie with Milly Medaris (2001-04) for the third-most all-time wins in Wooster program history at second singles with 19.

Sophomore Abby Williams secured the third singles win, posting a 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (8) win at No. 3.

In other singles matches, senior Abby Aitken lost 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4, while at No. 5, sophomore Margaret Steward fell 6-0, 6-0, and at No. 6, first-year Naledi Jani lost 6-3, 6-2.

The host Tigers swept doubles for a quick 3-0 lead. Oita and Jagannathan suffered a narrow 8-7 (4) decision at No. 1, while at No. 2, Aitken and Steward fell 8-3. At No. 3, sophomore Sarah Mashaal and Williams were defeated 8-2.

Wooster slips to 3-11 overall, including 0-3 in the NCAC, while DePauw improves to 10-5 overall and 2-0 in the league.

The Scots return to play on Saturday, April 13, traveling to Allegheny College for an 11 a.m. match.
