Jagannathan, Oita Reach Milestone in Match at Allegheny

Janaki Jagannathan, Wooster Tennis MEADVILLE, Pennsylvania – The College of Wooster women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 non-conference road matchup at Allegheny College on Saturday afternoon.

Wooster (3-12) scored one point in doubles play and one point in singles matches on the day.

In doubles play, Wooster's No. 1 pairing of senior Otilia Oita and junior Janaki Jagannathan scored an 8-3 victory over Allegheny's duo of Jean-Arlette LeGrand and Allison Riley. The victory by Otia and Jagannathan marked their 23rd victory at No. 1 doubles, tying the Wooster record for most wins at No. 1 doubles set by Catherine Christian and Rachel Molé between 2014-2016.

Allegheny (11-10) picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to grab a 2-1 lead heading into singles play. Wooster's No. 2 doubles team of senior Abby Aitken and sophomore Abby Williams fell 8-3 to Sabrina Rodriguez and Rei Etsumi. The Fighting Scots' No. 3 pairing of sophomore Margaret Steward and sophomore Sarah Mashaal dropped an 8-2 decision to Omega Ba and Maria Lounder.

Jagannathan accounted for Wooster's victory in singles play, defeating Emiliia Grydnieva 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2. Allegheny swept the remaining five singles to contests to earn the 7-2 victory.

Oita fell to LeGrand 6-3, 7-6 (1) at No. 1 singles, while Williams was forced to retire to Rodriguez at No. 3.

At No. 4 singles, Aitken won the opening set against Lounder 6-2 before dropping the second 6-3. Lounder won the third set super tiebreaker 10-5 to take the match.

Steward fell 6-0, 6-2 at Etsumi at No. 5 and senior Carter Pepa dropped a 6-1, 6-0 contest to Ba at No. 6.

Next, Wooster (0-3) hosts Ohio Wesleyan University (6-6, 0-3 NCAC) on Saturday, April 20 at 1:00 p.m. The match is part of the program's Family Weekend.
