Volleyball Opens NCAC Schedule With Straight Set Wins Over Earlham and Kenyon

The College of Wooster volleyball team opened its North Coast Athletic Conference schedule with back-to-back straight set wins, topping Earlham College (25-12, 25-14, 25-18) and Kenyon College (25-22, 25-14, 25-18), while extending its win streak to eight consecutive matches on Saturday at Meadville, Pa.

Senior Sarah Lorch set the tempo by smashing down five kills in the opening set against Earlham that energized the Fighting Scots (11-2, 2-0 NCAC) right out the gates. Lorch totaled seven kills in the match, while KateLynn Riley tallied a team-high 11 kills and Erin Webster added eight more to go along with 12 digs. First-year libero Kelley Johnson dished out a career-high 16 assists and sophomore Margaret Raabe recorded 11 digs in the win.

Then against Kenyon, sophomore Sarah Hawke led the charge with nine kills and zero errors on 16 attempts, totaling a remarkable .560 hitting percentage. Riley matched Hawke with nine kills, and sophomore setter Lizzi Beal distributed 31 assists. Both Johnson and Raabe patrolled the back line, chipping in 13 and 12 digs, respectively.

The Scots will look to match the longest win streak in the program's history (10, 1984) on Sunday as they battle Hiram College and Wittenberg University to wrap-up this weekend's NCAC-action.
