Scot Spikers Win Three of Four at Bishop Invite

The College of Wooster finished in second-place at the five-team Bishop Invitational, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University this Friday and Saturday at Delaware, Ohio. Wooster won three of its four matches, sweeping Ohio Wesleyan (25-14, 25-22, 25-19) and Transylvania University (25-21, 26-24, 25-17) on Friday night and doing the same to Grove City College (27-25, 25-23, 25-9) Saturday morning before dropping a four-setter to Otterbein College (17-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-12).

Throughout the weekend, the Fighting Scots were led by KateLynn Riley as the senior hitter combined for 46 kills, 13 digs, and 15 blocks. She had double-digit kill totals in three matches, including 15 on just 27 attempts versus Grove City, and seven of her blocks came against Otterbein.

Three other consistent contributors to the offensive effort were first-years Melissa Morgan and Erin Webster and sophomore Sarah Hawke, as they totaled 21, 21, and 20 kills, respectively. Running the offense as usual was sophomore setter Lizzi Beal, who wound up with 92 assists, including a high of 33 in the Otterbein match.

Defensively, freshman Kelley Johnson was credited with 55 digs, while Morgan and Webster also played integral roles in keeping the ball alive with respective dig totals of 44 and 31.

Wooster is off from competition until another tournament next Friday and Saturday, the Yeo-Scot Classic, which they'll be co-hosting with Oberlin College.
