Volleyball Drops Muskingum 3-0, Extends Win Streak to Six

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster volleyball team dominated two sets, and then battled through a competitive third, to sweep Muskingum University 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-23) and win its sixth consecutive match Wednesday night at Timken Gymnasium.

The Fighting Scots (9-2) looked unbeatable early on, winning by an 11-point margin in an opening set that ended with Sarah Hawke and Sarah Lorch blocking a shot together that tallied the winning point. Wooster got through the second set with little resistance, and would take a 6-0 lead to open the third, but the Muskies battled back late to get within one point (24-23). KateLynn Riley would end the rally, though, smashing down a dramatic kill on a Lizzi Beal assist that sealed the Wooster win.

Riley made her shots count all night, as she tallied 14 kills and zero errors on 21 attempts, totaling a season-high .667 hitting percentage. Also chipping in on the attack were Melissa Morgan (7) and setter Lizzi Beal (6), who scored with several unexpected put backs. Beal also dished out 36 assists in the win, and libero Kelly Johnson picked up 22 digs and two service aces.

The Scots will open their NCAC schedule this weekend in Meadville, Pa., starting with a clash against Earlham College on Saturday at 10 a.m.
