Riley Leads Scot Spikers to 3-1 Win Over Ohio Wesleyan

WOOSTER, Ohio – Behind senior KateLynn Riley's 42 kills and 11 total blocks, The College of Wooster split its two matches on Saturday, topping North Coast Athletic Conference foe Ohio Wesleyan University 3-1 (25-22, 25-27, 25-18, 25-21), but falling 3-1 (25-22, 19-25, 25-27, 23-25) to Case Western Reserve University at Timken Gymnasium.

 

Riley put together two excellent matches, smashing down 16 kills against the Battling Bishops (0-21, 0-7 NCAC), and dropping a season-high 26 kills on the Spartans (17-3). She would also post five total blocks (two solo, three assists) in the opening match, and six (one solo, five assists) in the second, to pace the Fighting Scots (14-6, 4-3 NCAC) in both categories.

 

Freshman libero Kelley Johnson totaled 56 digs on the day, including a career-high 30 in the loss to Case Western Reserve. Lizzi Beal had 43 and 42-assist matches, respectively, and added eight total service aces – seven of which came in the win over Ohio Wesleyan. Also chipping in on the attack was Melissa Morgan with 21 kills.

 

Wooster will look to topple another league challenger on Wednesday when it hosts Allegheny College (11-11, 5-3 NCAC) at 7 p.m.
