Win Over Denison Earns Scot Spikers Second-Straight 20-Win Season

WOOSTER, Ohio – For the second consecutive season, The College of Wooster volleyball team has reached the 20-win plateau, this time earning its milestone victory in a decisive 3-0 (25-23, 25-11, 25-19) rout over North Coast Athletic Conference challenger Denison University at Timken Gymnasium.

The Fighting Scots (20-6, 11-3 NCAC) have now won 20 matches or more in five of their last eight seasons, and tonight's win came with little resistance. The Big Red (6-21, 5-8 NCAC) pushed Wooster to the brink in the opening set, but was toppled by a combined 20 points over the next two, including a 25-11 decision in the second set that tied the Scots largest winning margin in a set this season.

Four Scots tallied double-digit digs, including first-year libero, Kelley Johnson, who led the squad with 18. KateLynn Riley smashed down a game-high 14 kills and added six total blocks (three solo, three assists), while Sarah Hawke tied a career-high with seven total blocks (all assists). As a team, Wooster totaled 12 total blocks, while Denison managed just two.

Also posting solid numbers was Erin Webster, who recorded nine kills, her second highest output this season. Lizzi Beal dished out 27 assists, and Margaret Raabe, who leads the team with 36 service aces, added another three tonight to go along with 11 digs.

Wooster will play its last two non-conference matches of the season this Saturday when they travel to Canton, Ohio to battle Malone Unviersity and Mt. Vernon Nazarene University beginning at 11 a.m.
