The College of Wooster was very competitive against nationally-ranked Wittenberg University and Heidelberg University, but ultimately, the Fighting Scots came up short against both opponents in a volleyball tri-match Saturday at Springfield, Ohio.

The Scots (4-11, 0-1 NCAC) were just a couple points shy of taking two sets from Wittenberg (6-5, 2-0 NCAC), which is ranked No. 13 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association coaches' poll, as they were tied with the Tigers 21-21 in the second set and 22-22 in third, but couldn't close out either. Wittenberg eventually swept the North Coast Athletic Conference tilt by set scores of 25-8, 25-21, 25-22.

Wooster's strong play in its last two sets against Wittenberg carried over to the Heidelberg (4-8) match, as it won the opening set 25-21. The Student Princes battled back, though, taking the next three (25-22, 25-19, 25-12) to notch the non-conference victory.

Paige Parker paced the Scots' hitters with 17 kills on the day, and added 21 digs, while Lydia Webster was next in line with 15 kills. Also noteworthy, Zoe Zwegat totaled eight blocks (2 solo, 6 assists), but was valuable in the attack as well with nine kills, six coming against Heidelberg, to go along with a service ace.

Rounding out the team leaders was Rachel Sell with 26 assists and Kaitlin Banko with 49 digs.

Next up, the Scots visit Muskingum University (9-4) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
