WOOSTER, Ohio – In a match which every point mattered, The College of Wooster outlasted Kenyon College 3-1 (28-26, 21-25, 25-21, 25-23), thanks in large part to a season-high 16 blocks, giving the Fighting Scots their first North Coast Athletic Conference victory of the season Tuesday evening at Timken Gymnasium.

Zoe Zwegat, who recently became just the second player in program history to eclipse 400 career blocks, was dominant as usual in this one, as she had a hand in 11 of Wooster's 16 total blocks. She also recorded eight kills and a team-high .412 hitting percentage in one of her finest performances of the season.

Wooster (7-16, 1-4 NCAC) made quite the comeback in the opening set, as it trailed 18-12, only to go on an 11-5 run that carried it to a 23-23 tie. With the score knotted at 26 apiece, Zwegat delivered back-to-back kills to give the Scots the set, 28-26.

Kenyon (0-18, 0-4 NCAC) completed its own rally in the second set, as it battled back from four points down at 15-11 to tie the score at 16, and then it took control on its way to a 25-21 triumph.

The third set was tied at 10-10 in the early goings, but Wooster steadily pulled away, and Lydia Webster smashed a no-doubter down the sideline to secure the 25-21 win.

It was fitting that the fourth set went down to the wire, just as the rest of the match did, and it was apparent Kenyon wasn't going to go without a fight. Paige Parker blasted several strong kills down the stretch, but each time, the Ladies responded with a point to keep the game in reach. Finally, a Kenyon service error gave Wooster a game-point opportunity at 24-23, and then Catherine Benton and Anna Emmick blocked an attack from Kenyon's top hitter, sealing the outcome.

Leading the Scots' attack was Erica Skillman with 11 kills, while Parker (10), and Webster (9) were next in line. Brittany Nicholson had a career-high 25 assists, and libero Kaitlin Banko had an exciting game, which included several diving, one-handed digs, on her way to a game-high 25.

The Scots will look to keep this positive momentum going when they travel to Erie, Pa. this Saturday for matches with Penn State Behrend (14-7) and La Roche College (12-11).
