The College of Wooster volleyball team made some positive strides at the Marcia French Memorial Invitational, including a three-set victory against University of Pittsburgh Bradford, which highlighted the Fighting Scots' results during the two-day tournament at Berea, Ohio.

The Scots (1-8) were better in just about every statistical category compared to last week's matches, especially against Pitt-Bradford (3-6), where they recorded season-highs in blocks (9), service aces (9), and hitting percentage (.169) en route to a 25-21, 25-22, 25-12 triumph.

Lydia Webster, the team's top-returning hitter, stepped up to deliver 42 kills during the four-match stretch, with consistent totals of 10, 14, 10, and eight. Her 14 kills against Capital University (2-7) marked a new career-high for the sophomore, and came with just three errors on 33 swings for a .333 hitting percentage. She was named to the all-tournament team.

Also impressive on the attack was Savannah Moore, who racked up 33 kills over the weekend, including a 13-kill, 10-dig double-double in the Capital match.

The Scots generated 25 total blocks at the tournament and Anna Emmick had a hand in 14 of them. She also chipped in 15 kills and four service aces in a well-rounded performance.

Other standouts at the net were Megan Mey with 23 kills, including a career-high nine against Baldwin Wallace, while Ksenia Klue chipped in 18 kills.

Setters Brittany Nicholson and Sydney Virgin totaled nearly identical assist numbers, with 58 and 56, respectively, and both added two service aces as well.

Defensively, Rachel Sell piled up 61 digs as the team's starting libero, while Moore (29 digs) and Laura Sherer (25 digs) were also top contributors in the back row. Sell also recorded eight service aces, with five coming in the win over Pitt-Bradford.

Wooster will look to continue improving when it hosts its own Kilt Classic next weekend at Timken Gymnasium.
