WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster was resilient in its match with Baldwin Wallace University, as it rallied back from a two-set deficit to nearly force a fifth set, but ultimately, the Yellow Jackets hung on to drop the Fighting Scots 3-1 (25-16, 25-21, 17-25, 25-23) on Wednesday evening at Timken Gymnasium.

The Scots (4-10) were slow out the gates, but had it not been for the first set, the match-up was as competitive as we've come to expect between the northeast Ohio rivals.

After totaling just four kills in the initial stanza, Wooster had 13 kills and just two errors on 34 swings (.324) in the second set, and was almost as efficient in the third set with an 11/2/33 stat line. The turning point in the Scots' third-set victory was when Lydia Webster served six straight points to turn an 18-14 lead into a 24-14 cushion. Savannah Moore put down the set-winning kill – one of her team-high 13 on the night.

Wooster led for the majority of the fourth set, by as much as five at one point (18-13), but Baldwin Wallace clawed its way back to tie it up at 22-22 and eventually win the set and the match.

Webster and Moore stood out offensively with 13 and 12 kills, respectively, while setter Sydney Virgin passed out 22 assists and chipped in three blocks, including two solo.

Other notables included Rachel Sell with 19 digs and two service aces, Kaitlin Banko with eight digs, Brittany Nicholson with 10 assists, and Anna Emmick with three block assists.

Next up, the Scots kick off the North Coast Athletic Conference portion of their schedule when they host Wittenberg University (7-3) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
