The College of Wooster kicked off North Coast Athletic Conference play against nationally-ranked Wittenberg University and was dealt a 3-0 setback Saturday afternoon at Timken Gymnasium.

The Fighting Scots (4-11, 0-1 NCAC) had some exciting moments in the third set, as they took their first lead of the match at 7-6, and then tied the score 9-9 on Ksenia Klue's service ace, but the Tigers (8-3, 1-0 NCAC) maintained a small advantage the rest of the way. Wooster kept as close as 16-18 later in the set, before Wittenberg closed out the match strong on its way to victory.

Wittenberg, which hasn't lost an NCAC match since 2010, limited Wooster to just 13 kills on the day. Over half (7) came from Lydia Webster, while Klue (2), Megan Mey (2), and Savannah Moore (2) tallied the others.

The back row statistics were spread out as Wooster tried to counter the Tiger's potent attack, with six players recording at least three digs, led by Rachel Sell with six. Sell also had one of Wooster's three service aces, and the senior libero has now recorded at least one ace in seven of her last eight matches.

Next up, the Scots host Franciscan University of Steubenville (4-10), which they defeated earlier this season at the Kilt Classic, on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
