WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster volleyball team gave its Homecoming crowd some exciting moments, including lengthy scoring runs in both its matches, but challenging opponents DePauw University and Carnegie Mellon University came away with victories over the Fighting Scots in a tri-match Sunday afternoon at Timken Gymnasium.

Playing against the Tigers (13-4, 2-0 NCAC), who finished second in the North Coast Athletic Conference last season, the Scots (5-13, 0-2 NCAC) found themselves in a 23-12 hole in the first set. Wooster then gained some momentum, as it put together a 5-0 scoring run that included some strong serving by Rachel Sell to pull within 23-17. That was as close as DePauw let the Scots get, though, as it went on to a 25-17, 25-12, and 25-12 three-set triumph.

Wooster played Carnegie Mellon (11-3) later in the day – after the Tartans swept DePauw 3-0 during the neutral site contest – and the Scots gave them a run for their money at times. Again down early in the first set, 11-5, Wooster scored six straight points, including two kills from Lydia Webster and another from Ksenia Klue, which knotted the score at 11-11. Carnegie Mellon powered through to take the first and second sets by identical 25-16 counts, before the Scots nearly knocked off the Tartans in a narrow 25-23 third-set defeat.

Despite the difficult match-ups, Webster came away with a team-high 15 kills and a solid .214 hitting percentage. Savannah Moore added 14 kills and Klue had eight, as the trio combined for 37 of Wooster's 45 kills on the afternoon.

Sell continued to add to her team-leading serving numbers with two more aces, to go along with 21 digs.

Wooster, which has played nine home matches over the last 17 days, will host its next match Friday, when it welcomes Hiram College (14-2, 2-0 NCAC) at 7 p.m.
