Scots Win Sixth-Straight with Sweep Over Wilmington

 Anna Emmick
 Ksenia Klue

The College of Wooster volleyball team continued its undefeated start to the season with a sweep over Wilmington College on Tuesday evening inside Fred Raizk Arena. The 25-21, 25-18, 25-18 win pushed Wooster's 2015 win-streak to six, a program first since the 2010 campaign.

Wooster, who trailed early in the first set, used a 5-0 run to take its first lead of the match at 11-10. Junior Anna Emmick sparked the rally with back-to-back kills. The middle blocker would smash down her sixth kill of the frame to put the College comfortably ahead at 23-18.

The Fightin' Quakers kept the score close in the second set, never trailing by more than four. Two blocks from first-year Ashley Plassard keyed a 4-0 run, enabling the College to extend its lead to 20-14.

Wooster pulled away again in the third set with senior Brittany Nicholson at the service line. The Scots took advantage of four straight Fighting' Quaker attack errors, opening up an 18-11 lead in the process after Plassard's third block of the match. Wooster would maintain at least a six-point advantage down the stretch.

Emmick and sophomore Ksenia Klue led the red-hot Wooster hitters on the night. The duo combined for 16 kills on 40 swings with just one error. As a team, the Scots hit a season-best .319. First-year Gabrielle Basinski's match-high 16 digs led the defense.

Wilmington (0-4) was paced by Kennedy Harshaw's 13 kills.

Wooster returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 12 with an 11 a.m. neutral match against Ohio Christian University (3-4) at Oberlin College.
