Seesaw Match Does Not Fall in Favor of Wooster

 Ksenia Klue

Senior Savannah Moore recorded her third triple-double of the season, and sophomore Ksenia Klue added her first career double-double, but The College of Wooster volleyball team would drop a five-set seesaw affair to Allegheny College (25-17, 19-25, 25-20, 21-25, 15-11) on Wednesday evening at Timken Gymnasium.

Moore recorded 20 digs, distributed 20 assists, and added 15 kills. She previously had triple-doubles against Muskingum University and Frostburg State University during the Bearcat Challenge. Klue recorded 17 kills, the most by a Fighting Scot since Moore's 18 against Allegheny during last year's North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. She would add 11 digs on the night.

Allegheny (11-6, 1-2 NCAC) used a 5-0 run to push its lead to seven at 19-12. Earlier in the set the Scots were able to tie the score at six on a kill from Moore, and at eight off an ace from Anna Emmick.

Wooster (11-5, 0-3 NCAC) roared back to take the second set. The Scots raced up to a 6-1 lead in the frame thanks to a pair of service aces from Sydney Virgin. The Gators hung tough, tying the score seven times, with the last being at 19-19. Wooster then took control with six straight points to close the set, highlighted by four kills in a row from Klue.

The tilt swung back in Allegheny's favor in the third set. Wooster tied the match at 16 on a kill from first-year Rachel Topper, and would re-tie the frame at 17. Allegheny was able to rally for a 5-0 run to gain momentum.

Wooster gained momentum back in the fourth frame at 11-10, led by Moore. The Scots' senior was able to make a tough dig in front of the up-official with Gabrielle Basinski getting her attempt to fall for a kill. Wooster would score the ensuing three points, highlighted by two kills from Jordan Murray, to claim a four-point lead.

Allegheny, who only recorded four blocks in the match, received two on back-to-back points in the fifth to take an early lead. Wooster rallied back, led by three kills from Klue, to take a 9-7 lead. The lead would not hold as the Gators chomped off a 4-0 run to take the match.

Basinski led the way defensively with 34 digs, while Murray added 24. Wooster would have a third double-double on the night in Virgin's 28 assists and 10 digs.

Wooster returns to action at 3 p.m. on Saturday when the Scots take on seventh-ranked Wittenberg University (13-1, 3-0 NCAC) in Springfield, Ohio.
