Balanced Attack, Moore's Triple-Double Helps Wooster Triumph Over Marietta

 Savannah Moore

Senior Savannah Moore recorded her fourth triple-double of the year as The College of Wooster volleyball team got back in the win column with a 25-17, 25-22, 22-25, 22-25, 15-11 triumph over Marietta College on Friday evening in Marietta, Ohio.

Moore would finish with 24 assists, 14 digs, and 11 kills in the win. The senior is now tied for fifth nationally in triple-doubles amongst Div. III players who have played in at least two-thirds of their team's sets.

Wooster (12-12) pulled away late in the first set with a 5-0 swing. Junior Lydia Webster recorded a solo block with Moore added a kill, which pushed Wooster ahead by eight.

The Fighting Scots block took control at the net in the second set. After the Pioneers (9-15) tied the frame at 10, the Scots received a double-block from Webster and Sydney Virgin, with Webster and Ksenia Klue teaming up two points later, to pull back ahead by four.

Three kills off the hand of Darcy Irish keyed a 5-0 run for Marietta late in the third set, enabling the Pioneers to rally back from a 20-17 deficit to take the set.

Wooster clawed out of a five-point deficit in the fourth set to tie the match at 17. Klue led the charge with two straight kills to start the rally before a service ace from first-year Jordan Murray tied the frame at 17. Marietta would regain control scoring five of the next six points, led by two kills from Mallory Vodopich.

The Scots would use three kills apiece from Klue and Webster to finish off the Pioneers in the fifth set. The duo would join Moore with double-digit kills for the match with 12 and 13 respectively.

First-year Gabrielle Basinski paced the back-row with a match-high 24 digs.

Wooster returns home to take on Kenyon College (9-11, 0-6 North Coast Athletic Conference) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The match will be the final home one for Moore and fellow senior Brittany Nicholson.
